About Land Data cic

Land Data cic is the UK's leading provider of electronic land and property information which is required for conveyancing.

Through the National Land Information Service (NLIS), Land Data cic provides electronic access to all official sources of land and property information, across the whole of England and Wales, via a hub and a number of electronically accessible channels.

NLIS was set up to support Local Authorities and other property information holders in their move from manual to electronic provision of property information. NLIS partners have been responsible for developing the electronic infrastructure to connect data providers with conveyancers. Through the NLIS hub, users can access information from the 410 Local Authorities, the national parks, Land Registry, the Coal Authority, the Environment Agency and water companies.

Land Data intends to expand its growing spectrum of information providers as well as develop new and enhanced search services to help improve the land and property information market.  It is initially concentrating on servicing the needs of conveyancers and is at the forefront of the e-conveyancing revolution, which will streamline the home-buying process. Instead of submitting numerous, separate search requests in writing, a process which is labour intensive and time consuming, conveyancers can purchase an NLIS search online, which can be completed and returned sometimes within a matter of minutes.

Homebuyers whose conveyancers use Land Data's service not only benefit from a faster and more efficient service but are also be safe in the knowledge that the searches are authoritative and fully comprehensive. Since it went live in early 2001, NLIS has processed over 14 million searches in support of the home-buying public.
