The National Land Information Service (NLIS)

Land Data is constantly working to improve the home buying process. One of its current main projects is NLIS - the National Land Information Service.

NLIS provides electronic access to all the official sources of land and property information, across the whole of England and Wales, via a number of competing channels. The organisation is at the forefront of the e-conveyancing revolution, which is streamlining the home-buying process.

NLIS users can access electronic information from a range of data providers including, 410 Local Authorities, national parks, Land Registry, the Coal Authority, the Environment Agency and water companies.

Rather than conveyancers having to wait for hard copies of search information using NLIS they  are able to not only benefit from a faster and more efficient service but are also safe in the knowledge that the searches are authoritative and fully comprehensive.

Since it went live in early 2001, NLIS has processed over 12 million searches in support of the home-buying public.

The Local Authority Property Information Information Portal (LAPIP) Project

In October 2007 Land Data launched a number of trials aimed at determining how access to base or unrefined land and property information held in Local Authorities could be provided electronically.

Working with a number of partners, including Northgate Information Solutions and the NLIS Hub, initial explorative work has begun in eight Local Authorities. Visit the LAPIP page for more information.
